PM directs FM Pandey to expedite works on budget

KATHMANDU, Nov 12: The caretaker Prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has directed Finance ministry to expedite works on the budget so that government can present it in the parliament in between November 17 to 23.

Similarly the PM has called a meeting of the cabinet at his official residence Baluwatar, at 4 O´ clock, Friday to discuss on the budget.


He has also called a meeting of political parties for Saturday in his bid to garner support of the political parties to the budget.

The PM Nepal held a meeting on Friday morning with Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, Law and Justice mninister Prem Bahadur Singh, Finance secretary Rameshwor Khanal, Law Secretary Madhav Poudel, Secreatry Dr, Trilochan Uprety, Deputy Attorney General Puspa Koirala and Surya Koirala, advocates Agni kharel, Hari Krisha Karki, and Tika Ram Bhattarai.

Budget likely on Nov 19

The caretaker government is likely to present the budget on November 19, but the meeting of the cabinet will finally fix the date.

Government made up its mind for the budget after Prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal consulted with Finance minister Surendra Pandey, legal experts and senior government officials at his official residence, Baluwatar on Friday morning.

A participant told Republica that PM asked the legal experts for the advise on what the government should do if the opposition obstructs the government from presenting the budget in the parliament.

The legal experts suggested the PM that if the opposition bars the budget from being passed, the government should bring the budget through ordinance.

The meeting also concluded that the cabinet should call the opposition for support to pass the budget.
