KATHMANDU: The Consumers Welfare Protection Forum has filed a complaint against Minister for Labour and Transport Management Mohammad Aftab Alam stating the fare hike of public transport was not carried out scientifically and subsequently it will have adverse affect on consumers.
The Forum has filed complaint demanding action against Minister Alam, Director General of the Department of Transport Management Anil Gurung, Chairperson of National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs Dinesh Bhandari, General Secretary Dolanath Khanal and Treasurer Saroj Sitaula.
The complaint was lodged in the anti-graft body calling for interference citing that Minister Alam, director general Gurung and Federation unilaterally decided to hike vehicle fare by ignoring the Supreme Court's decision that the government should fix the fare of the vehicles of public transportation as per the Vehicle and Transport Management Act-2049 and it should be undertaken in a scientific manner, the Forum made it clear.
The press release issued by the Forum reads, 'The Supreme Court (SC), in its verdict on November 7, issued order to determine scientific fare rate and not to bring about any changes in the existing rate of fare until scientific determination is taken into account'.
