Fishtail Air helicopter crashes in Solukhumbu; two crewmembers killed

A helicopter belonging to Fishtail Air has crashed near the base-camp of Mount Ama Dablam in Solukhumbu Sunday morning.

Two crewmembers, Captain Sabin Basnet and Engineer Purna Awale, have been killed in the crash.

Basnet and Awale were the only two persons flying in the aircraft. The aircraft had flown to Mount Ama Dablam to rescue two Japanese mountaineers stranded in the mountain due to adverse health condition.

It had flown to Lukla from Kathmandu at about 8.00 am with some passengers onboard. It had flown further to Mount Ama Dablam after dropping the passengers at Lukla airport.

It had lost contact shortly after taking off from Lukla airport.

Another helicopter belonging to the same airliner that flew from Kathmandu for rescue after hearing the news of the crash found the bodies of Basnet and Awale. nepalnews.com
