Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to ask Speaker Subash Chandra Nemwang to declare Ram Chandra Paudel elected to the post of Prime Minister unopposed at the prime ministerial election slated for Monday.
A joint meeting of party's Central Working Committee (CWC) and Parliamentary Party (PP) at Singha Durbar Sunday afternoon decided to draw attention of the Speaker to the SC ruling on the ongoing prime ministerial election and ask him to declare Paudel as the PM.
"We have decided to ask the Speaker to respect the Supreme Court ruling and declare Paudel as the PM unopposed, as he is the sole candidate for the post," said Nabindra Raj Joshi, parliamentary party spokesperson and CWC member of NC.
Earlier, at a meeting of seven large parties called by Speaker Nemwang to discuss about tomorrow's election, other political parties had rejected the NC proposal to declare Paudel as the PM unopposed. The Supreme Court had directed Speaker Nemwang last week to end the ongoing meaningless elections and review the process to bring an outcome.
Different political parties have interpreted the SC direct in different ways. At the meeting today, NC has also welcomed the release of democratic leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi, and demanded for complete political freedom for her.
