Government responsible: Maoist

KATHMANDU, Nov 20: The United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) on Saturday claimed that the government should be held responsible for the incident that happened at parliament on Friday night.

“The unfortunate event was a result of government’s undemocratic attempt to bring in full-fledged budget,” Maoist vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said in a press conference organized at the parliamentary party’s office in Singha Durbar. “Thus the government should be held responsible for the event.”


“The government’s forceful attempt to table the budget was unconstitutional, undemocratic and against the understandings between the parties,” he added. “We have warned about the protest during talks and the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee on Friday.”

He also said that there were only ‘minor scuffle’ at parliament.

Shrestha also reiterated the party’s commitment towards peace process. “We are fully committed to peace process, and we urge other political party not to take an emotional decision about our party based the event that happened due to weaknesses and mistakes of the government,” Shrestha said.

“There should not be any polarization among parties and we urge all to make an environment for national consensus,” Shrestha added in the press conference also attended by Maoist leaders Post Bahadur Bogati, Dev Gurung, Jaya Puri Ghatri Magar and Lokendra Bista Magar.
