Statute sub-committee agrees for bicameral legislature

The sub-committee under the Constitutional Committee (CC) formed to narrow down differences among political parties in the new constitution has resolved the dispute on the structure of the legislative body in the centre, Tuesday.

The political parties agreed to have a bicameral legislature at the centre at a meeting of the sub-committee Tuesday morning.

UCPN (Maoist) leader Dev Prasad Gurung, who is a supporting member in the sub-committee, told Nepalnews, the parties have reached an agreement to have bicameral legislature in the centre and unicameral legislature in the provinces.

The jurisdiction of the Houses was also discussed at today’s sub-committee meeting. The parties are yet to reach consensus on the size of the Houses.

The sub-committee has also reached an agreement to name the houses, National Assembly and House of Representatives at the centre and House of Representatives in the provinces. nepalnews.com
