KATHMANDU: Land Mark Worldwide Company of South Korea has completed the feasibility study of second International Airport at Nijgarh in Bara.

The global company based in South Korea has completed the feasibility report but has still not submitted to the ministry.

“The report is already a month late,” said Ranjan Krishna Aryal, joint secretary at Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA). The report had to be submitted by January 31.

“However as soon as the report is submitted it will be forwarded to the Built Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) committee that will study project development process under the BOOT concept and finalise it,” he added.

“Either the company has to go through the tender process or should start direct negotiation,” he said, adding that the ministry will definitely give first priority to the company but it has to follow the decision of the committee.

“We are waiting for the proposal from the company,” he said.

Earlier, it had — in first preliminary report — focused on the

completion of fast track road before the completion of second

International Airport.

The company has already presented its ideas for the runway, its terminal and services at the to-be-built at the international airport. “The second International Airport will be a great achievement for the country,” said Aryal.

As the report has not yet been submitted the estimated construction cost and over all facts and figure are not disclosed, he said however he further added that the company plans to develop SIA within an area of 80-sq-km.

Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport in Nepal that has one runway, and single engine aircraft and the big aircrafts use the same runway.

LMW has already submitted a preliminary report of the detailed feasibility study for the second international airport in July 2010 and in which it has urged an early completion of the fast track. The company has presented idea for the runway, the terminal and services at the proposed airport.

MoTCA will call a global tender for the airport’s construction after receiving LMW’s report. LMW’s feasibility study stated that the proposed airport could handle five to 15 million passengers annually and even accommodate the super-jumbo Airbus 380 after the first phase of construction.

Land Mark Worldwide is a 10–member team of different companies within itself.
