UCPN (M) floats 'volunteers bureau'

The main ruling coalition partner, UCPN (Maoist), unveiled its new youth squad, People's Volunteers Mobilisation Bureau on Tuesday.

Coordinator of the Bureau, standing committee member Netra Bikram Chand, formally announced the establishment of the Bureau amid a programme held at the party headquarters in Paris Danda this afternoon.

A ten-member executive body comprising central leaders was also announced on the occasion. The members include politburo members Devendra Poudel and Shakti Basnet and Young Communist League YCL) chairman Ganeshman Pun.

Refuting accusations that the party floated the youth squad as a preparation to stage 'people's revolt', Chand said the organisation would create pressure for timely completion of the constitution-writing and the peace process apart from engaging in "development activities and public security" across the country.

The Bureau, which will have members from all sister organisations of the Maoist party, will be actively involved in reconstruction of physical infrastructures destroyed during the insurgency, leaders claimed.

The Maoist party is making public the Bureau weeks after it announced to have dismantled the paramilitary structure of its young wing, the YCL. nepalnews.com
