Govt to send 15-member rescue team in Japan

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday expressed profound sorrow over the huge loss of life and property in the earthquake and the subsequent tsunami in Japan, and decided to send a team to help with the rescue efforts.

The Government decided to send a 15-member team on behalf of Nepal to support the Government of Japan and the Japanese people in the aftermath of the natural calamity.

Talking to media persons following the meeting, Minister for Education and spokesperson of the government, Ganga Lal Tuladhar said the rescue team shall comprise 10 Nepal Army, three Nepal Police and two Armed Police personnel.

Likewise, 500 units of blankets would also been dispatched in support of the people affected by the tsunami in Japan.

The meeting today also decided to constitute a three-member probe commission to investigate the incident of shooting that took place at central prison on March 10, targeting media entrepreneur Yunus Ansari, and present a report within a month.

The probe team led by former Supreme Court Justice Rajendra Kumar Bhandari comprises as members Deputy Attorney General Prem Raj Karki and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kuber Singh Rana.
