Jimmy Carter holds telephone talk with PM Khanal, Maoist chairman Dahal on peace and constitution

Former U.S President and founding chairman of the Carter Center, Jimmy Carter, has held separate telephone conversation with Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal and chairman of Unified CPN (Maoist) Thursday morning.

During the 10-minute long telephone conversation with PM Khanal, Carter congratulated him for getting elected as the Prime Minister and also obtained latest information from Khanal on the ongoing peace process and constitution drafting.

According to PM Khanal’s press advisor Surya Thapa, the PM told Carter that the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) would no speed up the tasks under the peace process.

According to Thapa, the former US President also pledged support Khanal-led government and expressed the belief for timely conclusion of the peace process and statute drafting under his leadership.

Similarly, during his telephone conservation with Maoist chairman Dahal, Carter queried about the Nepal’s peace process and statute-drafting.

According to the party’s Foreign Department chief and Communication minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, chairman Dahal informed him that major parties had been actively engaging in bringing the peace process to a logical conclusion and draft the new constitution on time. nepalnews.com
