NT sold 300,000 SIMs in two weeks

KATHMANDU Jan 1: Nepal Telecom (NT) has sold about 300,000 GSM pre-paid SIM cards in less than first two weeks of its promotional offer. The new rate of the SIM card costs Rs 200 with talk value of Rs 100.

Before the offer the SIM card would cost Rs 1135 and with talk time worth Rs 500. The SIM card in the new rate was made available from December 19.

NT Spokesperson Surendra Prasad Thike said there was encouraging response in very short period of time. He informed Republica that within Kathmandu Valley only around 70,000 customers purchased NT GSM pre-paid SIM cards.

The number of customers is likely to slow down after NT has limited the service in some of the places by providing the SIM card only to those who had registered online.

“In some places including Kathmandu we are giving SIM cards only to those who have already registered online keeping the strength of network in mind, he said.

“The distribution of SIM card will resume to normal after NT completes its network expansion works that may take a few week to few months depending upon places,” he added.

Thike said customers could get SIM cards easily in other places where the network capacity is stronger.
