PM Nepal reshuffles his caretaker cabinet

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday reshuffled his caretaker cabinet to strengthen his shaky coalition government.

The portfolios of ministers representing the newly formed Terai Madhesh Loktantric Party –Nepal (TMLP-N) have been exchanged with that of UML ministers in the cabinet so as to make it appear that TMLP-N ministers were demoted from plum portfolios.

The latest move comes as PM Nepal seeks to pacify coalition partner Terai Madhesh Loktantric Party (TMLP), the parent party of the breakaway faction TMLP-N.

Minster for Industries Mahendra Yadav, who heads the new TMLP-N, has been given the responsibility of Ministry of General Administration. Minister Rabindra Shrestha, who used to earlier look after that ministry, has been given the responsibility of Ministry of Industries.

Similarly, Minister of State for Industries Dan Bahadur Chaudhari, who together with Yadav formed TMLP-N, has been sent to Ministry of General Administraton while Minister of State for General Administration Jitu Gautam has been brought to the Ministry of Industries.

Minister Yadav has already said his party is not going to quit the current government even as TMLP has already threatened to quit the government if the Prime Minister didn't sack minister Yadav and state minister Choudhary, who are accused of dividing the party. nepalnews.com
