Rs 1.4 m looted from Jalawalakhel bank

JAWALAKHEL: Two masked motorcycle-borne robbers detonated a bomb at the Jawalakhel branch of Standard Chartered Bank and decamped with Rs 1.4 million at around 1:15 pm on Friday.

The robbers looted Rs 4 lakhs from Counter No 2 and the remaining 10 lakhs from Counter No 5 of the bank, said DSP Raj Kumar Lamsal. The bank is located just about 50 metres from the District Police Office, Lalitpur,.

The robbers, who stormed into the bank premises on a motorbike with plate number 2857 (the alphabets not clear), pulled guns on the locals who tried to retaliate against them and fled the scene unharmed, witnesses said.

The identities of the robbers, with Mongolian features and wearing black jackets, are yet to be established. Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the culprits.
