NA officials arrested

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: As a part of the ongoing investigation into Brigadier General Kiran Bajracharya and his subordinates for serious “breach” of discipline, the Nepal Army (NA) has arrested around 10 army personnel, including high-ranking officials.

According to highly-placed army sources, the headquarters, which reportedly will carry out court martial proceedings against Bajracharya and his subordinates, made the arrests as part of the investigation.

Unlike commoners, the detained personnel will be accompanied by guards round-the-clock and will not be allowed to move out of the premises of headquarters on any pretexts.

NA had formed a Court of Inquiry on January 4 accusing General Bajracharya of lobbying with political leaders against term extension of Major General Naresh Basnyat, chief of the office of the Director General of Development of Construction.

Including Bajracharya, Lieutenant Colonel Premendra Kishor Chhetri and Majors Kiran Shrestha and Pankaj Thapa, among others, are likely to face court martial proceedings.
