KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala today sent separate written responses to the Supreme Court on Koirala’s son-in-law Rubel Chaudhary’s case.

Stating that legal authorities are competent to take action against anyone violating the law, Prime Minister Nepal said in his written response that there was no need to intervene from his level.

“There is no need to direct any authority from the level of Prime Minister to perform duty as per the law as it is the duty of such authorities,” the PM said, adding that if Rubel was involved in illegal work, the legal authorities were free to arrest and proceed with action.

Deputy PM Koirala termed the writ petition filed against her son-in-law baseless and claimed it did not have any ground for taking action against Chaudhary.

“It is a matter to be performed by legal authorities, which can take action against anyone who goes against the law,” Koirala said, adding, “If a First Information Report had been registered against him, the authorities would have investigated on their own and carried on with other proceedings as required by the law, but no FIR was registered,” the DPM said. Stating that the writ petitioner had, without any ground, accused her of influencing the authorities just because of her familial relationship with Chaudhary, she labelled the charge totally false and fabricated.

Seeking apex court order to the government authorities to punish Chaudhary, Daindra Bahadur Khatri had filed a writ petition in the apex court charging Chaudhary with being involved in call diversions and cheating state owned Nepal Telecom and misusing the United Nations’ logo and passport as well.
