Electricity tariff to go up by 30 percent

THT ONLINE

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is gearing up to bring in force 30 percent increment in electricity tariff.

Speaking at a face-to-face programme in the capital on Friday, NEA Managing Director Jibendra Jha informed about the increment.

The documents regarding the proposed charges have been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance from the Ministry of Energy for endorsement, said Jha.

As per the new tariff structure, the increment will however not affect the customers using up to 20 units per month. Also concessions would be availed to temples, irrigation and street lights.

Jha also said there would be up to 14 hours of load-shedding this winter. The power-cut will continue for another six or seven years, he added.
