KATHMANDU: Sagarmatha Television (STV) could not meet the deadline set by the Supreme Court to reveal its source of information on the basis of which it had aired news regarding Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha’s property in Kathmandu.
Though the SC-set three-day deadline expired today, STV could not furnish details as ordered by the apex court.
“We did not receive any explanation whatsoever from STV, therefore we will take a decision on the kind of action that should be taken against the TV company,” Hemanta Rawal, assistant spokesperson at the apex court said.
According to him, since it constitutes serious disrespect of the SC, an appropriate decision will be taken tomorrow.
The apex court had on Wednesday, given STV three days to clarify, stating that it had aired objectionable, fictitious and fabricated news. The apex court also stated that the news aired by the TV posed serious threat to the integrity of Chief Justice Shrestha, attacked judicial decorum and slandered his character.
Editor of STV, Sharad Chandra Osti said that since the letter did not appear so serious, the TV would submit its clarification tomorrow. “We prepared the letter today but we could not submit it at the apex court today itself due to lack of time. We will submit it tomorrow,” he added.
