MJF sets terms for joining govt

BIRATNAGAR; Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Chairman, Upendra Yadav, today said his party is ready to join the present government if the latter pledges to address Madhes-based parties’ demands.

“Our party will join the government if the latter pledges to implement the agreements made with the Madhes-based parties, and commit itself to bringing the peace process to a logical conclusion and drafting the constitution before May 28,” Yadav clarified.

Speaking to mediapersons at Biratnagar, he said: “If the government cannot address our demands, there’s no point in becoming a part of it. In such a situation, we would rather stay in the opposition.” He said though the present government looks good, it has failed to make a good beginning. Yadav called on the CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist to make their stance on the government clear. As for the seven-point agreement between the UML and the Maoist party, Yadav said his party could not accept it. Saying that the agreement has given rise to another dispute, he criticised the agreement that envisages rotational leadership of the government.

Referring to the peace process, he stressed that the task of integration of combatants and rehabilitation should be completed soon. “No dilly-dallying is acceptable in this regard,” he maintained.
