Maoist SC fails to pick ministers after dispute over portfolio allocation

In yet another snag to the month-long deadlock over cabinet expansion, the Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) party held on Thursday morning ended inconclusively after it could not take final decision on the leaders joining the government following dispute over portfolio allocation.

The meeting has now been postponed until 4 pm today afternoon.

According to some reports, the dispute has arisen after the Bhattarai and Vaidya factions of the Maoists forwarded party secretary CP Gajurel’s name as the team leader in the cabinet. Dahal is learnt to be opposed to the proposal as the party has already decided to join the UML-led government with standing committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara as its leader in the cabinet on Wednesday.

Talking to media-persons after the meeting, Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said that the meeting to be held later in the evening will finalize names of candidates joining the cabinet.

According to Maoist sources, Dev Gurung, Barshaman Pun, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Dina Nath Sharma, Jaya Puri Gharti, Khadka Bahadur Bisokarma, Agni Sapkota, Hit Man Shakya and Giriraj Man Pokharel are among those set to be picked as ministers. nepalnews.com
