The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the parliament has directed the government authorities and the concerned construction company to demolish the overhead bridges that are under construction at Kalanki and Balaju in Kathmandu.
A meeting of the PAC gave the instruction Friday, concluding that the overhead bridges are being constructed by violating the building standards.
"The construction is not going according to the standards. It is also inappropriate in view of the ongoing expansion of the Ring Road," PAC chairman Ram Krishna Yadav said.
The PAC direction comes at a time when the contractor, Innovative Concept Pvt Ltd, has already finished more than half of the construction works in both the projects.
The Kathmandu Municipality had launched the bridge project to ease the traffic congestion caused by pedestrian movement and to minimize traffic hazards. nepalnews.com
