Maoist chair, NC leader heading to Bardiya to start returning seized property

The long-awaited process to start returning property seized or occupied during the conflict period by the then CPN (Maoist) party is set to start from Sunday as per the recent 7-point agreement among the major parties.

UCPN (Maoist) party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula are leaving for Bardiya district shortly to kick start the process

Bardiya district had seen the largest seizure of public and private property during the conflict period.

According to Maoist leaders, the public and private property seized or occupied by the Maoist party will be immediately returned to their rightful owners while decision on properties already distributed among farmers and landless peasants will be taken after further discussion with other political parties.

As per the 7-point agreement of November 1, 2011 among the parties, the public and private property seized during the conflict period will be returned by November 23.

The Maoist party has already issued a circular to the party's lower organisations directing cadres to assist in the process of returning seized property, while the home administration has also started necessary preparation to create an enabling atmosphere for the same.

However, the Maoist hardline faction led by Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya and party establishment camp are at odds over returning property seized or occupied by the party.

The Baidya faction has said it will resist every effort that is made to take away the land from the poor farmers and the landless. nepalnews.com
