Leaders hold hectic discussions ahead of voting on statute amendment bill

Senior leaders of the three main parties - UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and UML - held hectic discussions from the morning today in an attempt to reach agreement on the mandate of the expert committee to be formed to suggest on state restructuring ahead of a voting in the parliament on the constitution amendment bill which will pave the way for formation of such a committee.

At a meeting held in Singha Durbar in the morning, the three parties agreed to pass the constitution amendment bill. They also agreed to determine the mandate of the expert committee by considering issues raised by the lawmakers representing different sections including women and indigenous communities.

The leaders are to hold talks with women lawmakers and representatives of the group of lawmakers from indigenous communities.

The parliament is set to vote on the bill seeking amendment to the Interim Constitution today. nepalnews.com
