KATHMANDU: Students, consumer rights activists and gas dealers on Thursday have launched a joint agitation, protesting the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) recent decision to hike prices of petroleum products across the country. NOC had increased the prices of kerosene petrol, diesel and cooking gas on Monday.
Since early today morning, students at Pashupati Multiple College, Chabahil, and elsewhere, staged demonstrations, demanding rolling back of the hiked prices and immediate release of the detained students, who were arrested while staging protest against the price hike on Monday. Due to today's protest, the campus areas have remained tense.
Also, Gas Dealer Federation Nepal is organising a two-hour sit-in in front of the NOC central office Babarmahal, while the Rastriya Prajantra Party are set to burn at Ratna Park the effigies of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Minister for Commerce and Supply Rajendra Mahato. A day earlier,the party had picketed the NOC central office to protest the price hike.
