Bima Sansthan faces manpower crunch

KATHMANDU: The government owned insurance company, Rastriya Bima Sansthan, is likely to face shortage of permanent staffs, as necessary steps were not taken in time to fill the vacant posts.

It has been reported that the insurance company has not appointed any permanent staff since 1986 due to protest by the employees when attempts to fill the vacant posts were made.

Binod Aryal, who was appointed the Director of the company, attempted to solve the problem but faced stern protest. However, he appointed 49 employees. Of them 27 are of officer level and 22 are auditors.

According to Aryal, the government owned company has not carried out the audit since last six years. He claimed the audit works of last four years was completed within eight months time of his tenure. Aryal added that he would complete the remaining audit work within the next two months.

He said none of the insurance companies in the country have been providing 65 per cent insurance bonus, though they claim so. However, Rastriya Bima Sansthan is the only insurance company that has been providing 65 per cent insurance bonus.

Shedding light on the present situation of the Sansthan, he said it has cleared the claims of Rs. 850 million within a year. He added that there is 14 billion cash capital with the company and that it can easily compete with any other private insurance companies in the country.

The Sansthan has 10 branches across the country and around 700,000 customers at present.

Of 400 posts in the company, only 157 employees are working and of them too 50 will retire from the company within the next two months, said Aryal.

He said that he was planning to appoint more 40 employees to uplift the company.
