Armed NA soldier creates terror in Dadeldhura village

A Nepal Army (NA) soldier created terror in Jogbuda village of Dadeldhura district after he opened fire at a couple killing the husband and wounding the wife.

Deepak Shahi from Arjuni Barracks in Royal Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reservein Kanchanpur opened fire at Bir Bahadur Bista and his wife when they were collecting firewood in a jungle near their house. While, Bista died on the spot, his wife Lilawati sustained injuries in her mouth.

Shahi, armed with an M-16 rifle, chased Bir Bahadur's sister Madhavi after shooting the couple, according to eye-witness accounts.

Shahi has not been arrested as of now. Bir Bahadur's body was airlifted to Dhangadi only on Friday more than 24-hours after his death as the armed soldier threatened the villagers not to inform the police or army about the incident.

Villagers said, Shahi was still around in the village after the incident till Friday, but they could not catch him as he was armed.

Bista had absconded from his troop Thursday morning with the gun and 125-rounds of bullets.
