Rally to protest attack on lawmaker Jamakattel

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: The workers associated to the UCPN (Maoist) took out rally in the Capital today to protest the attack on lawmaker and Maoist trade union leader, Shalikram Jamarkattel.

The rally rounded different parts including Ratna Park, Kamaladi, Putalisadak, Sahidgate and converged into a corner assembly after reaching Ratna Park.

Speaking at the corner assembly, lawmaker and Maoist leader Jhakku Prasad Subedi condemned the attack on lawmaker Jamerkattel and demanded to arrest the guilty and take legal action against those involved in the case.

Similarly, Minister for Youth and Sports, Onsari Gharti Magar, said the attack has created an environment of terror among the public.

An unknown group had attacked lawmaker Jammerkattel while he was heading to his residence at local Babarmahal last night.

Injured lawmaker is receiving treatment at Norvic Hospital, Thapathali.

Meanwhile,the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, today visited Jammerkattel at local Norvic Hospital to inquire about his health condition.

Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) Dahal and NC Vice-president Paudel condemned the attack and demanded an investigation into the case and action to the guilty.

According to Dr Pravin Shrestha, a doctor involved in Jammerkattel’s treatment, said Jammerkattel received a deep injury on his head.

Also, the Metropolitan Police Commission Office has formed a five-member investigation committee coordinated by Senior Superintendent of Police Kedarman Singh Bhandari to probe into the case, said Spokesperson of the Metropolitan Police Commission Office, Madhav Nepal.

Superintendent of Police Dipak Thapa, Deputy Superintendent duo Somendra Singh Rathaur and Arun Kumar BC, and Inspector Kaji Acharya are the other members of the committee.
