UML tears apart Ban, Landgren reports

Himalayan News Service

KATHMANDU: Communist Party of Nepal (UML) today expressed serious concern about the reports and perspectives presented to the Security Council by General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and his representative to Nepal, Karin Landgren, regarding peace process and the UML party. Issuing a statement today, UML lambasted Landgren for calling UML a stumbling block to the formation of a new government by staying neutral during polls to elect new prime minister.

In her briefing to the Security Council on September 7, Landgren claimed that UML agreed to extend Constituent Assembly’s terms fearing the party would split. UML statement, on the other hand, accused Landgren of bias.

UML also took offence to Ban’s remark that the caretaker government cannot decide UNMIN’s future. Ban had questioned caretaker government’s authority to decide UNMIN fate in his report to the Security Council.
