Maoists not to allow financial bill

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: UCPN (Maoist) on Friday ruled out the possibility of allowing the caretaker government to table a financial bill and urged it to look into alternatives to avoid the looming financial crisis.

“Caretaker government has no right to table the financial bill in parliament,” Maoist vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha said after a meeting of the office bearers of Maoists at Naya Bazaar, Kathmandu.

Fears are heightening that the country might expose to a severe resource crunch after October when the government will have no resources to expend after. The present allocation that is one-third of the last year´s real expenditure is expected to be enough just for four months.

Chances are high that lack of a full-fledge can spark a full-blown financial crisis after October if parliament does not approve a financial bill soon. Even after the seven round of voting, parliament has not been elected a new prime minister to replace Madhav Kumar Nepal who resigned on June 30.

Shrestha also clarified that the parliament session scheduled on Thursday was postponed as Maoists party protested the government’s plan to table the finance bill. “It was postponed not because of Maoists were not ready to discuss on controversial the tape scandal as it was reported,” he said.
