Police to introduce special package for valley security

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The Nepal Police has decided to introduce a special security package in Bagmati zone to combat crimes in the valley, which has been ever more dependent on neighboring districts for security.

A meeting of senior police officials representing eight districts of the zone and other neighboring districts reached an agreement to prepare and follow a comprehensive package focusing on security in the valley during a meeting convened by Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) at Dhulikhel.

“The need of new security arrangement is felt strongly as criminals operating in the capital are found to have made neighboring districts their hide-outs,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rana Bahadur Chand, the MPCD chief. “It is not possible to combat crimes in the capital without an integrated approach.”

MPCD has listed about 100 such criminals. The hide-outs have also been located in Ramechhap and Dolakha districts. “Besides 100 active criminals, there are around 400 who we think should be kept under close watch,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Amatya.

The capital has always recorded high rates of crimes during festivals. “It´s high time that we start working with this package,” Chand said.

The police officials also agreed to appoint a focal officer in each district of the zone to co-ordinate with the valley police and to share intelligence among the units for prompt response. They also agreed to erect hoarding boards in prime locations displaying pictures and details of major absconding criminals.
