KATHMANDU: The Cabinet today gave its go-ahead to a 11-member delegation under Home Minister Bhim Rawal to attend the 65th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
Nepal will address the assembly on the last week of September.
Of the team members, five will leave for New York from Nepal. The delegates include Kulchandra Gautam, the candidate for the UN assembly presidency, UN division chief at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Durga Bhattarai and Under Secretary Dor Nath Aryal and National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, according to Minister for Education Sarvendra Nath Shukla.
Six other delegates, who are already in New York, are Nepal’s permanent representative to UN Gyan Chandra Acharya, deputy permanent representative Shankar Das Bairagi, Minister Counselor Amrit Bahadur Rai, Counselor Mani Prasad Bhattarai, first secretary Mani Raj Sharma and second secretary Junga Bahadur Gurung.
Meanwhile, a Cabinet source said Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and other ministries rejected Forest Minister Dipak Bohara and Peace Minister Rakam Chemjong’s call to include them in the team.
