30 feared killed as bus plunges in river

SINDHUPALCHOWK: At least five persons were killed and more than 25 went missing after a commuter bus en route to Barhabise from Baseri skidded off the road and plunged into the Bhote-koshi River at the Baseri road section along the Araniko Highway today.

Dhan Bahadur Shrestha (42), Kanchhimaya Shres-tha (35), Nima Pasang Sherpa (36), Thilen Sherpa (25) and Chandra Maya Lama (40) were killed in the accident, said Sindhupalchowk District Police Office DSP Sthaneswor Regmi.

According to police, only 11 members had approached police asking for rescue of their kin.

According to locals and police, Ram Chandra Nepal, Badri Nepal, Krishna Nepal of Fulpidanda, Ram Chandra Acharya, Homraj Parajuli, Bal Bahadur Thapa of Barhabise; Tshering Sherpa of Marming; Sitaram Thami and Umesh Karki of Ramche; Dhanamati Tamang of Gaati; and Kale Tamang have gone missing in the Bhotekoshi River. The ill-fated bus could not be retrieved.

Driver Bikram Shakya, his helper Buddha Shakya and passengers Govinda Chalise and Tanka Prasad Dahal survived the mishap.
