Govt to unveil policies and programs on July 3

REPUBLICA
KATHMANDU, June 26: The government on Sunday informed the parliament secretariat that it would present the policies and programs of the new budget on July 3.

Corresponding to the parliament secretariat, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) informed the secretariat officials that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav would present the government´s policies and programs on that day.

According to Speaker Subas Nembang, the government is also planning to present the annual budget on July 14.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari on Wednesday tabled the priorities and principles of the new annual budget and pre-budget deliberations are under way in parliament since.

Officials at the parliament secretariat said the pre-budget deliberations will continue till Tuesday. This is the first time after the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in 2008 that parliament is holding pre-budget discussions before unveiling the new annual budget.

The previous government led by Madhav Kumar Nepal had to introduce the budget through ordinance after lawmakers from then main opposition UCPN (Maoist) has obstructed the government´s move to bring the new budget.

The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has assured the ruling coalition that it wouldn´t hinder the passage of new budget provided the finance minister brings it in consultation with the opposition parties.
