REPUBLICA, May 11: Former foreign minister Shailendra Kumar Upadhyay, who died on Monday along the slopes of Mt. Everest, was cremated at Pashupatinath crematorium on Wednesday.
His body was brought from Everest Base Camp to Kathmandu in a Nepal Army chopper.
The body was kept at the crematorium from 11am to 1pm for paying last tributes.
Upadhyay, 81, was seeking to become the oldest man to climb Mt. Everest beating the record set by Min Bahadur Sherchan who climbed the mountain in 2008 when he was 76 years and 340 days old.
Upadhyay was climbing down from Camp 1 on Monday when he suddenly fell ill and passed away.
