Maoist green signal to Khanal

Monday, 19 July 2010 17:40

The Unified CPN (Maoist) has said it would support UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal for Prime Minister if its bid to form the government under its own leadership fail.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the party's standing committee Monday afternoon, Maoist vice chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said his party has arrived at the decision to support Khanal provided its effort to form a Maoist-led consensus government do not succeed.

According to him, the party has not yet decided whether it would join the UML-led government.

He, however, said the party would still continue deliberations with other parties for their support to form the Maoist-led government.

The Maoist politburo meeting slated for Tuesday will take final decision on the formation of new government. Leaders said the politburo might nominate the party's prime ministerial candidate if the situation turns favourable by tomorrow.
